Mental Health Counselors need support sometimes, and who is better to provide that than other professionals? When you need collaboration or consultation with a case, a compassionate ear for venting, or just some friends and associates to hang out with, turn to the Dade Mental Health Counselors Association in Miami-Dade, Florida. We are an association of mental health counselors striving to connect counselors from all disciplines and backgrounds.

About Our Association

Mental Health Counselors have their national and state associations and now we have the Dade Mental Health Counselors Association (DMHCA).

We are local counselors who want to support our community, including Mental Health Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Clinical Social Workers. We chose the name “Dade” because that was the original name of our county and it’s easy to say – “Dahmca.”

July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. It is observed to bring awareness to the unique struggles that racial and ethnic minority communities face regarding mental illness in the United States.

Basic Challenges with Gender Transition

For those individuals who identify as Gender Dysphoric or Gender Diverse, there are a myriad of challenges to living in a congruent presentation. At the end of this brief presentation, attendees will be able to

  • list the most common challenges for transitioning individuals,
  • describe how to address them,
  • define the impact of them on the transitioning individual.

Member of the Month

Natalie Herradon, LMHC-QS, NCC, MHSA, is the Director of Case Management Services at Jewish Community Services of South Florida (JCS). A licensed mental health counselor and qualified supervisor with over a decade of experience, Natalie brings a strong clinical foundation and deep commitment to supporting individuals and families in crisis. Her work spans trauma recovery, grief counseling, refugee resettlement, and disaster relief, with a focus on delivering holistic, trauma-informed care. She has led teams in response to community-wide emergencies, supported individuals coping with profound loss and displacement, and helped vulnerable populations navigate complex systems to regain stability. In addition to her leadership role, Natalie provides clinical supervision to developing mental health professionals, guiding the next generation of counselors with a focus on ethical practice, cultural humility, and evidence-based care. At JCS, she oversees services for a wide range of clients, including Holocaust survivors, refugees, and families facing housing or financial insecurity, always centering the dignity and resilience of those she serves.
